Getting Around London near Park Lane

London has a variety of forms of transportation for getting in and around the city, including the area near Park Lane. Perhaps the most widely used form of transportation is the London Underground, often referred to as the "Tube". The Tube has 270 stations and is the second largest public transportation system in the world. Trains run from around 5:30 a.m. until about 1:00 a.m., depending on the line. Tickets can be purchased by putting money onto a reusable card called the Oyster Card. There are also Travelcards that can be purchased for unlimited access to the Tube for one day or seven days.

Another important part of London transportation, including the area near Park Lane, is the city's network of buses. Buses serve areas that the Underground does not, and there are more bus stops than Tube stations, making it a convenient choice for many. Buses offer service in and around central London as well as the outer suburbs. London buses use the Oyster Card and will also take Travelcards that can be used on the Underground as well.

Due to its location on the River Thames, London is the perfect city to get around in by ferry and boat. The River Bus offers service along the Thames, stopping at many places of interest. Although mainly used by commuters, the River Bus stops at several places that would be convenient for visitors looking to explore London and all it has to offer. The River Bus makes stops at places like Chelsea Harbour, the London Eye, London Bridge, Tower Millennium Pier, Canary Wharf, and Greenwich.

A quintessential London experience, black cabs are another great way to get around the city. While they can be pricey, they are also a lifesaver for groups, people with lots of luggage or bags, or those who want the convenience of door-to-door service. Black cabs can be hailed from the street or called for pickup ahead of time.

In recent years, the city of London has tried to encourage biking, and it seems to be working. With so many of London's famous sights located within close range of each other, it's a great city for biking. Today, locals and visitors alike can rent a bicycle for an hour, a few hours, a day, or a few days with the city's bike sharing program, Barclays Cycle Hire.
